How can I differentiate between the different grades of copper?
Bare Bright copper is essentially stripped wire that is extremely shiny with no paint or other contaminates.
#1 Copper is clean copper pipe and wire that has no contamination (this product does not need to be shiny just clean. No solder nor paint will be accepted as #1.
#2 Copper is copper with contaminates such as paint, solder, tape, dirt or grime. (Please note that burnt wire is actually worth less than #2 copper.)
#3 Copper, extremely dirty product. This copper almost never comes in but some of what it would cover would be burnt wire, fully painted copper lines, copper with large amounts of foreign substances melted or attached on. This is the lowest grade of straight copper that we accept.
